Leaving my job ....... HELP?
|
I handed in my notice a week and a half ago and my manager was fine, I asked for a waive of notice and they said they will let me know.
My other manager has reterned from annual leave today and suddenly everything is different. They are always awful when they get together but this is unbearable.
They are being really funny with me and today they asked to see how much overtime/time taken back I took last week.
I gave them the information in an email (they asked for it to be cc'd to them both) but they are checking all my hours in the signing in book.
I feel humiliated. Its like they don't trust me and they are questioning my integrety.
I only claimed for 2.5hrs so they really are taking the pi$$.
I am also really paranoid now that I did my calculations wrong and they will try to 'catch me out' although i dont think i did and if i did this is entirely accidental.
I have given them my hardest work for 3 years and they do this!!! I am so angry.
What are my rights/what can i do? Additional Details I have 4.5 weeks to go...... my notices period is 6 weeks

You are under no obligation to give them ANY notice that you are leaving the company. You can walk in tomorrow and say that your done and your leaving right now. It you chose to do this, make sure you have any important emails printed out and in your bag, any copies of your extra hour forms, printed out and in your bag. If possbly, wait until lunch to tell them you are leaving, and make sure everything is out in your car before hand because chances are if you quit righ there and then, they will allow you to claim your bag or someone will get it out of your desk for you, and you will be escorted off the property to make sure you arent taking anything incriminating to the company.
This company is killing you slowly, should you already have another job lined up, leave now, but if you need the reference, you might want to reconsider staying - but then if they make things up and blab to a future employer, it doesnt do you any good.
I really think you should pack your stuff up and quit tomorrow, do your job search or get a quick part time job... even if it is a fast food restaurant its a paycheck and just stick it out.
I dont see personal benifits for you in staying and the longer you stay the more they will pick at you and bad mouth you to others. Quit now and walk away. They are just playing nasty |

In the United States, there is no law saying you have to give notice to an employer. You can leave when you want. If you are sick of the way things are going, quit today! They cannot do anything about that.
Also, the employer has to pay you for any earned vacation time that you have not used yet. They cannot dock your pay for any hours that you worked or earned.
However, if you are a contractor, that's a different story...
EDIT: Thanks for clarifying that this is a UK question. Sorry I can't answer your question, but I'll leave the post for any USA readers. |

Go to your doctors and get signed off with stress....... that'll shut the @rseholes up. They're abusing what tiny amount of power they have. |

Well sounds like you have made the right decision to leave. Try to just ignore them and look forward to your new job. Some Managers are a*******s.
If they cross the line you can still complain to HR about bullying, it doesn`t matter that you are leaving. Some companies even don`t make you work your notice if they feel the relationship has broken down but they still have to pay you for the notice period. |

Notice period is really just a nicety - what are they going to do if you do just leave early? Sue you?
Your next employer may well be sympathetic to your problems (tell them what's going on - keep it simple & unemotional) and may be happy for you to start early.
These people sound like horrors - if you can't move to your new job sooner and can't afford to just leave, work exactly your hours until you notice is up. |

There is not much you can do but hang in there until your notice is up. Hopefully you have a much better job lined up. If so then concentrate on how much happier you will be. Employers do get really paranoid when someone is leaving. They aren't the first...so don't take it too personal. |
