Legal Advice on Emancipation and moving out at 17?
Find answers to your legal question.

Legal Advice on Emancipation and moving out at 17?

I live in GA.
So far what I know is the 4 ways to become emancipated and the means I need to prove my emancipation should be granted.
So the questions I need answered are.

I heard there are no laws against me to moving out at 17, is that true?

Do I need to go through filing a complaint if my Mother agrees to the emancipation?

Am I allowed to get an apartment with a 21 year old male that is not related? (Not my Boyfriend. Hes like my brother) Or are there no laws against who I live with?

What is Public Assistance exactly?
The laws said "That the minor has the ability to manage her own financial affairs. This includes having proof of employment or other means of support.(not public assistance)"

How do I file a complaint?

Where do I get the paperwork?

Is there a such thing as a FREE attorney?
Additional Details
I know that active duty and marriage are only 2 of the 4 ways to get emancipated in GA.

Turning 18, and filing a petition in Juvenile court are the other 2 ways.

You don't have to become emancipated if you can get your parents to sign a notarized paper allowing you to live with the person you have chosen to live with. In some places 17 is old enough to move out with no legalities necessary.

first it depends on the situation you are in, (ex. un fit parents, un able to get along with one another) depending on the state you live in i live indiana an up here you cant just move out if you are under the age of 18 if your mom agrees with the emancipation then you still have to go threw the legal stuff about the 21 year old ( just asking is his name Brian i has a guy friend go down to georgia for a 17yr old friend that was a girl and he is 21) but if you are emancipated then no there are no laws against it but if you aint then he could get in trouble for delquincy of a minor some attorney that ma be pro bono (free) but they usually do that on case that is gonna get alot of publicity. To file a complaint i think you have to get an attorney

At 17 you can probably make your own decisions, but think them through. Moving in with a 21 year old dude to mark your freedom may seem like what you want. But you may well discover it to be short term gain for long term pain. You need to think about your long term future. You need to understand the "key" to success in life is education. Dropping out of high school spells disaster. Even graduating from high school is not enough these days. You need to go on to college or at least learn a skilled trade. If you are still in school why not talk to your guidance counsellor. Most cities/states have government sponsored youth counselling services as well. Ultimately the decision is yours, but proceed with due diligence. I know this is not the response you want, but think about it. Good luck.

I think you're out of luck I googled it and found out that you have to either be married or be in active duty with the armed forces under GA state law

how long until you turn 18? why not just wait.. it might take court that long for you see them and process everything..

are your parents ok with you moving..? if they are why not just move and not do anything wrong until you are 18, or even after..

might just be easier.

Unless you are being mistreated at home (physical abuse etc), DONT do this.

You'll regret it for the rest of your life.
