Legal Name Change? ?

I was wondering how I would go about legally changing my minor son's name, and how much it would cost. I know I can get the legal papers online, but what else needs to be done, and how much total would it cost in the end?

Call the courthouse in your area to find out about the filing fee and if you will be allowed to file the paperwork without the aid of an attorney.

The cost depends on the State you are filing in. Normally you can't change a minor's name unless there was a mistake on his birth certificate.

You need to give some additional information to your question.

*Why does the minor's name need to be changed?
*Are you the minor' father?
*Where is the mother?

1. You have to use an attorney, unless you know how to fill out the paperwork. Clerks are not permitted to assist you b/c it's considered giving legal advice..

2. Is the father's name on the birth certificate? If he is, then you cannot change it without his signature.
