is it illegal to sell copies of a song cover?! (i.e. sell my own quartet version of viva la vida) if so, what are the processes involved to make it legal if there are any? thanks

yes it is illegal. You have to get approval from the owners of the song/music to have your quartet able to record the song and then you could sell it.

i have recently heard a major band new song and the main riff (that also makes up the main part of the song) and it sounds alot like something i wrote and recorded (which was dated) a few years ago. would i have a case for plagiarism? we kicked about the same underground scene in the city we're both from so it wouldnt be hard to have heard the song we did.
