Legal working holidays?

im working from 6pm on new years day until 6am 2nd jan, jst wondering if its legal for me to be at work.

Yes. It's legal.

There's no law (that I'm aware of) prohibiting employees from working on certain days.

There are, of course, all sorts of related questions. You're pulling a 12 hour shift. Some union contracts and some federal regulations (such as for truck drivers) can prohibit a 12 hour shift.

There's also the question of overtime. You're putting in 6 hours of work on what is defined as a legal holiday. You may be entitled to extra pay.

But--yes--it's legal for you to work on January 1 and January 2.

Of course it is. There is no law that says businesses must be closed or employees be paid extra to work on holidays.

It is a 12 hour shift. People work them all the time. They will have to pay you according to the overtime rules in your state.

there is no holiday that would be deemed illegal to work. if you are a minor however, there are laws resticting the amount of hour you work and times when you can work but as an adult those restrictions are lifted. hope this helps
