I got a summer job about a month ago and just had a conversation with one of my friend. I told him i lied on my job application regarding the school I will be attending next year. I lied in order to get the job since most employers want long-term commitments from their new hires. I will actually have to leave this job to go to college(not the college I put on the application). Is there anyway they can find out what college I will be attending? and if so, besides from getting fired, can I face legal issues as well?

The worst thing that can happen is they will fire you. Most likely way for them to find out would be if you keep telling people that you lied on your application and one of them lets it slip to the wrong person. |

You're not likely to have anything happen over lying, beyond getting fired if they find out. But don't expect to get hired back next summer, or to get a good reference from them.
Lying on a job application is usually an automatic firing if and when they find out. |

No you won't face legal issues. It wouldn't be worth it to the company. They also have little way of finding out that you never intended to enroll at that college. Plans change. |

No legal issues, and they prob wont check what school. I wouldnt consider it as you lied, its more like you are making a better choice for yourself and were confused about what school you wanted to attend. There is nothing wrong with changing your mind. Yes, of coarse there is the possibility that you will be fired lying on your app. But I totally understand that you needed a summer job and that most employers dont like to waste their training dollars on someone who is going to leave in 3 months. But hey, whatever. You needed a job! Dont sweat it! |
