Manager leaked confidential information about me to other workers?
Find answers to your legal question.

Manager leaked confidential information about me to other workers?

My manager has leaked confidential information about myself to my workers, I know that because a she was in a room wispering something and when I walked in they looked at me with amazement. I told my manager something in confidence during my interview, I was then offered the job, but now I feel that she has breached the companies rules regarding confidential information. How would i be able to proove exactly what she said.

It may seem as though I am paranoid, but I am not. Before she held that little gossping meeting everything was fine, but now, all my team are having lunch without me and even going to the loo together. Yet again, when I walk in conversation stops.

If I am able to get this information out of one of my workers, is there any legal action I can take against her. Please note: I am on my probation period within this company and know that there will be a limit to what I can actually do.
Additional Details
Thanks for your sensible answers. I am actually doing as you said, working and reaching my targets, so I will continue doing that until something does come out.

you cannot prove this even happened now can you. Work like you are supposed to work and maybe some day it will come out who knows

The truth is that employees talk to each other. And that goes for managers too. They'll gossip with other managers and even staff. So this is just part of being a workplace environment and is perfectly normal.

Many, however, keep confidential things confidential. But I've run into some who don't! And that's why I always suggest that you be very careful what you reveal to others.

Now if the confidential info that was revealed was something detrimental to you--"badmouthing," then you might have a case. But it would be up to you to prove it! And if you were to walk into HR with someone who can confirm it with firsthand knowledge of the leak, then you might have a case. Other than that, it's simply your word against hers.

However, you might want to notify HR that this has happened, even if you cannot prove it. Why? Because it's possible that you're not the first one who's raised this issue. And if now, then you would be further evidence of possible leaking of confidential info.

Whether or not you choose to say anything at all is up to you.

I guess I'd do the same if everyone stopped talking when I came in the room. BUT it could be that she's said something else (just that she doesn't like you or something) - not necessarily that she told them the private things you said in interview.

Probation can be a difficult time; it's about seeing whether you have a good fit with the organisation. That works on both sides. If you don't like the way things are, maybe look for something else.

How confidential is it?

Without knowing it, it will be difficult to take action.

just do your work for what you are hired for. and they are paying you for or you will be fired

How on earth are you going to prove it? More likely, from what you say, is that your colleagues just don't like you, or maybe you are indeed a little paranoid . . .

she should not have said anything at all the next time someone stops talking when you walk in the room ask what the problem is personally i would ask the manager did she say anything to anyone and then if she admits it go over her head to someone higher but keep your dignity and professionalism and do your job it may come out at some stage

If you can find someone who would tell you then you can approach your HR rep and tell them all about it and get the info from the collegue who will tell, it should all be confidential through HR anyway and they can deal with this for you. But I would just carry on doing your job and well and as the saying goes 'what goes around, comes around' maybe one day you will find out something about the 'gossiper' that will make them feel just as vulnerable as you do right now!! But i would speak to your collegues and try and find out what was said then definately approach HR with the situation, thats what they are there for
