in the US employers are free to set rules as they see fit, unless it falls under a protected class for discrimination there is no law to to refer to |

Im uncertain as to how this is managed within the letter of the law, but, I would believe that as managers have the full accountability and responsibility of the success of their departments, they do have certain obligations to manage effectively.
At no time may a manager act beyond the labour legislation, regardless of his company policy. This includes working hours, abusive behaviour and unfair labour practice. However, the manager may elect to implement legally acceptable controls that other departments dont have in place. He could, by way of example, request that you sign in at start of shift/day, sign out-in when taking your lunch-break etc.... Its perhaps easier if you give a few examples of his rules. That way we can see if its acceptable practice. :-) |
