Math used for being a Lawyer?

Lawyers do very little math. I practice patent law, and I very rarely do anything more than simple arithmetic. Complex formulae almost never arise. Even tax lawyers don't do much math beyond simple arithmetic.

This is to be contrasted with science. There is a lot of science in patent law, but it's mainly conceptual rather than mathematical. If you're good at physics or chemistry, and you have strong language skills, patent law may be a good field for you.

It depends on what area of law a lawyer works in.

Tax attorneys often do pretty complex calculations. Hard to explain in short form exactly what they do.

Prosecutors who go after tax fraud often use compare reported income with what the accused purchased. They can use these differences as evidence of fraud.

Estate planning lawyers need to work with financial data in order to give the best advice to their clients.

Litigators probably do less math, but sometimes statistics can certainly play a role in proving things like causation.

Intellectual property lawyers often need to be able to understand complex scientific and engineering formulas. On top of that, they have to be able to make the calculations understandable to normal people who may be the jurors (and even the judges).

Accounting functions for billing and keeping track of expenses for a case.

Statistics and percentages. Just for starters.

Call a lawyer's office and ask. Check with the Bar Association or call a law school and schedule a phone interview with someone.

Warning: DON'T go into the field of Law <these jobs are drying up FAST!

Go into the field of healthcare <LOTS of jobs there.

Yes, it is a good idea to study math. You'll always need it in a job. And you'll make better money if you are good at math.

Holy hell, the only way you would need math as a lawyer is to count your money.

Im going to be a lawyer and I hate math with a passion.
