Minimum overtime pay? Is there a minimum amount of time people should be paid for working on their days off?

I live 1.5 hours from work. If I have to travel, basically 3 hours to do 1 hour of overtime, I actually lost money coming to work, not to mention half of my day. Are there laws in California reguarding minimum overtime pay for scheduled days off.

in California:
overtime is 1&1/2 X reg rate for over 8 hours per day,
overtime is 2 X reg rate for more then 12 hours in a day,
overtime is 1&1/2 X reg rate for over 40 hours in a week,
overtime is 1&1/2 X reg rate for the first 8 hours of the seventh day of work in a work week(even if less then 40 hours worked),
overtime is 2X reg rate for all hours over 8 of the seventh day of work in a work week (even if less then 12 in the day or 40 for the week).

if your employer called you in for one hour of work you need to discuss your concern with them but there is no law that requires extra pay because you have to drive a long way for a short shift.



California does have reporting time pay if you are not allowed to work your normally scheduled shift but that does not apply to you working on your day off however........................
IF they implied you would be working a shift of longer then 4 hours and then sent you home after one hour then the reporting time pay law would apply.

Find a job closer to home. Who in their right mind would ever travel that far to work every day unless they were paid a very substantial income?

Only if overtime is over 40 hours. In that case it is time and a half. (Example if you make $20 an hour, time and a half is $30).

Unless you are a salaried worker, (not hourly), in that case they can work your butt off as much as they want.
