Minor Son is Terminated From Job....Can Parent Attend Firing Meeting?

My son is being terminated and the reason stated is stealing.
He was served popcorn without using any inventoried containers by another workier in his off time (common practice by asst managers). First they suspended him for a week, then kept telling him to call them next week to see if he's on the schedule. 3 weeks past as I think they were waiting for him to quit. Now they say we're firing you.

He had just been promoted to lead position at this theater 2 weeks prior.

He is a minor working on a work permit in CA.

He has a meeting to go pick up his last paycheck and officially be fired. Manager says that HR will NOT allow a parent to attend.

Is this legal and how do I find out more about Ca employment law with regards to minors & work permit?

This isn't about fighting my sons battles. I'm not that kind of parent. However I am a parent who can be a resource for my kid....not just say "you screwed up...deal with it." But find the resources he needs to fight his own battles....that's the beauty of the older generation. If he had done something wrong...I may have had the previous attitude however the boss kept him hanging for 3 weeks hoping he would quit because he really didn't have a good reason to fire him and he knew it.

I just wanted to know- If he needs my permission and signature to work as a minor....why would I not be permitted to attend his termination meeting. Thanks to you who gave the factual links without time wasting assumptions and hyperbole.......appreciate it.

Instead of waiting to be fired at the meeting, perhaps he should just give his two weeks notice. The employer then has to provide the last paycheck by his last day of work of the end of the payperiod. He can refuse to attend the meeting and they can't hold his paycheck for that reason (if they do, he only has to complain to the California Department of Industrial Relations).

But no, there is no law (at least that I can find) that says a parent must be allowed to attend the firing meeting. If your son were arrested (by the police), then yes, you must be allowed to be present before they can question him.

Well taking inventory, pop corn, without paying is a white collared crime. Not sure about some termination meeting. However sounds like there me be more details than be let in on. Good luck.
