Misdemeanor expunged a year ago in California.
I want to apply to work at a county hospital.
On the application it asked" Have you ever been arrested for a misdemeanor?".
Should I say No or Yes?
Additional Details
This is a county, government hospital.

The whole reason you get your record expunged is so you did not have to disclose that information right? I mean if you wanted to answer the question "yes" then why spend money and time and aggrivation having your record expunged? |

If it will not show up on a background check, you should not disclose the info. The reason for disclosing is because when teh company performs a background check, you don't want to be viewed as lying on your application. |

I wish I could tell you differently, but the arrest probably remains on your record, even if your guilty conviction was expunged. You can legally answer "no" to a conviction question, but not to an arrest question. I would strongly recommend that you explain the situation up front. It may not disqualify you from the position and you will probably have to explain the record anyway. Bear in mind that a county hospital will have a high level of access to arrest and conviction records due to justifiably heightened safety concerns. |
