Missing a few hours during job probation?

I just got a fulltime job. And it will start from next week. I will be under probation. However, now, I have unavoidable interview for my permanent residency withe the US immigration on the 10th of Dec. I will go to the HR tomorrow and I am thinking that I should let the HR person know that I cannot miss this mandatory interview due to the immigration status. Do you think that the HR will understand? I will not miss my work a whole day. I just need three hours to complete.

they should be ok first i'd clear it with your manager before you go to HR since it is detrimental i dont think they will mind. if you go to your manager first you may not have to go to HR |

I'm not sure what kind of job it it, but it might be better just to let your boss know. Just tell them it's very important and be polite but firm. They're usually very understanding. |

If you want them to understand then be upfront with them. Everyone has to miss work once in awhile. You have an obligation to give as much advance warning as you can.
