My Boss Is Trying To Fire Me?

I interviewed with a different supervisor and manger for this position. Neither however is available to help me deal with this issue. I have worked in the medical field many years. Recently having an injury preventing me from returning to contact position I took a medical insurance office job to utilize my skills. This is something totally different but I figured I would do well since there was suppose to be "3 wks of training and 6 months to really fit into the job comfortably" as I was told.
I just completed my 90 day probation period and received my first evaluation-it was poor. So poor to the point I have two weeks to change my performance or I’m fired. I have NEVER had a poor work performance evaluation before.
Apparently during the 90 days anytime I asked questions or had someone assist me with my new job, it was considered disciplinary actions taken against my work performance while I was under the impression I was still in the learning process. I am no longer to ask team members questions. My boss has informed me that she took "numerous measures by having trusted staff to assist me with my errors to overcome them and yet I continue to make mistakes". So literally I can not make ANY mistakes or ask questions. I think this is unreasonable, but I want to improve and keep this job that I really do like what I do.
What would you suggest?

No, I was not informed that the conversations perviously about my performance was actually "write up" so to speak, but were merely a discussion on my weaknesses to improve.
I plan to approach HR and to address each issue on the evaluation.
As far as the 6 months comfot level: it is said by everyone in managment and training, but I do not recall seeing it in writing, however, I may be able to gather some data on that before I comment on the performance report.

i would suggest that your look for another job, immediately. as you probably know, being an "at will" employee, you are basically employed at the whim of your boss. for any reason, or at any time, they can fire you. it sounds like you are a quality person, who wants to do well, unfortunately, this company you are working for, has a very unreasonable boss. update that resume and begin searching. good luck! |

I think that you are being put in an unreasonable situation if they told you that you had 6 months to fit into the position comfortably. Sometimes that phrase is thrown around, and perhaps you took it too literally, but I'd look back through your files and see if you can find that anywhere in writing. If so, you have evidence and something to support you.
Was your boss giving you this feedback throughout the 90 days, or was all of this feedback a surprise? If it was a surprise, I think you have a valid argument on your hands for HR. Besides which a 2 week turn around time to straighten up is not standard...so, I think you should speak with your HR rep. It sounds like something fishy is going on here.

Well its not the end of the world, their will be other opportunities and it seems like you are working in a place where they are out to get you, so just do your job and if they fire you so be it, i know it hard but then if your boss is out to get you they will get you not worth the fight,
move on there are important things to do rather than doing a job and being in a fear that you will be fired. Just go and do your job and don't worry about the job and the *****.

So the learning curve is steep? I have been in a job where asking questions was encouraged, however, that is a bunch of malarkey. What the employer really wants is for you to do your job with the fewest amount of questions possible. Try to figure it out yourself as best you can. |
