I recently started a new job for a company that brokers truck loads. I was told that i would be paid commission off of the loads that i book. I got my check yesterday and it was only for $60!!! That is definately not even close to minimum wage. Isnt there a law against paying someone less that minimum wage? Help me; i dont know what to do....Thanks for any help you can give!

If your compensation is based solely on commission, or a production against a draw, and you are in a "work at will" position, then chances are it's legal. Check the paperwork you signed when you started work.
Also, check with the state department that oversees wage law in your state to find out how this is handled. Each state has it's own laws. |

If it can be shown that you can make minimum wage (including commissions) in the amount of hours you work, there's no law against it. It's not the best situation, but it is legal. |

If you are an employee, then you have to be paid minimum wage. If you are an independent contractor, then you don't.
Do they take out social security and medicare from your paychecks? If not, you are not being considered to be an employee. |
