If she has no experience I'd suggest a temp/perm agency locally.....it might be intimidating but, it will get her the experience she needs to back up the certs. Or ask an advisor at the school for placement assistance. |

Well, you're friend is starting out, just like everyone else in the world has, experience-less and holds a degree/certificate something a lot of people with experience don't. My advice, tell your friend that yes - companies want experience, however, that isn't the only thing they are looking at. Her school may be able to help her find a job, or she can search on her own. (monster, careerbuilder, etc.) www.indeed.com is also an excellent source.
I would tend to shy away from the temp agencies...if she is looking for a "full-time, good paying, benefits, etc." position. The thing is, when you interview at a job you know is temp, they will try to pay you bare min. And for temp to perm, (ex.) most companies will hire you for the "three month" temp position and will "re-evaluate" after the three months to see if they want to hire you. 9 times out of 10, the company will extend your 'temp' assignment for another 3 months so they don't have to cover your benefits.
Onto her 'experience'. I would suggest listing out what courses she went thru to earn her certificate (typing, MS Office, etc.). I would also list experiences that are not 'legal' related. Ex: If your friend worked as an office assistant at a doctors office, it shows she was still experiencing the same "office support tasks" that she would in a law firm.

she can look on Craigslist in her city and hopefully find entry level jobs. Depending on that City and State she lives in, and what type of job she is applying for, I assume legal secretary, she can expect to make $10-$14 an hour to start, but definitely, look for entry level jobs. |
