The fact that he got sacked via text message is tacky, but it doesn't create any special legal recourse for him. In other words, if he was fired for any illegal reasons, he has the same rights that he would if he was fired any other way. If he has reason to believe that he was fired for illegal reasons, he should contact an employment attorney. Good luck to him! |

Employment Guy is right. The only thing I would add is check the laws in the area you live in. Or, if you are under contract or in a union position, read your agreement. There may be a process that is required to be followed. For example, if you are fired from a job in MA, then the company is required to have your final check ready at the time you are fired, and also provide you with information on unemployment benefits.
Every state/province/country have their own laws so it depends on where you were legally employed. |
