My last employer is giving my a bad reference? Is there anything I can do?

Is there any reason they are giving you a bad reference?
Also a lot of companies don't offer reference checks but simply they will say whether or not you were employed and if you are re-hireable.

Perhaps a call to your old boss would do some dilagence and see why they are saying what they are, also you may not want to include this company as a reference if they are hurting your chances at a job.

You can't do anything about it, unless you don't list them as reference and or you don't use them as previous employment.

Is what they are saying true? If not, you could call them or write to them, tell them it's come to your attention that they are telling lies about you and if it continues, you will have to take further action.

If what they're saying is true, then it's not illegal, although many employers wouldn't say much of anything.

THEY CAN ONLY STATE WHAT IS FACTUAL OR TRUE, attendance,attitude,work ehtic,reason for leaving, anything they want as long as it is answered truthfully

Not list the employer. Otherwise - unless what he's saying is untrue and you can threaten a defamation suit, you're stuck.

First, I would contact one of those individuals you interviewed with. Ask what you can do to improve for future interviews. Ask specifically if there was anything in your previous reference that caused you not to get hired. They may have had 3 interviews that were good, one of which may be better than you.

Then, if you do determine that they absolutely are giving a FALSE bad reference (if they say you were fired and you were, or if they say you didn't work out your notice and you didn't, then the reference may be bad, but true so it isn't libel) then contact an employment attorney.

Keep in mind that you should be able to file for unemployment if you were fired. While, depending on the reason, they may have to wait several weeks, your employer will likely have to pay if you continue not to get a job.

sue him they are only supposed to say if you were rehireable or not they are not supposed to give out any other information but that!!
