I was wondering if anyone knew if it was legal to fire an employee via telephone? I live in NJ and have done the research, but can't find the answer. I have heard that an employee cannot be fired via telephone and I was wondering if it was true?

you can be fired by phone, mail, e-mail, text, skywriter or told when you show up for work in the morning.
this is not the most professional way to do it but it is legal in every state unless.......................
you are under contract or a collective bargaining agreement then the issue may be covered in the agreement.
what you have "heard" is probably some employers POLICY,
employers policies are often interpreted by employees as law and repeated as such. just look at some of the questions here and the answerer's who state what the "law" is. |
