Need opinions on career in paralegal!

I'm going to be starting school in a few weeks, and I was looking into being a paralegal. The reason why is because I love watching all the court shows, nancy grace, forensic files, first 48... in fact i live on court TV/Tru TV. And I've had a bit of interest in law for a few years now. Now I dont think I would go as far as being a lawyer. But I was told that paralegal is an assistant to a lawyer... which sounds a hell of a lot better. I'm going to do the two year degree, then maybe take a year break and get my bachelors. I know the experience is different for everybody, but I would love to hear some opinions. Thanks! :)

It would depend on the type of law you practice in...but you will have to enjoy dealing with a lot of paperwork and learning that everything is ruled by a predetermined deadline. Been in the field for over 20 years and only have have been to 2 trials...rest of the time is in the office preparing for them

Working in the field of Law is NOTHING like what you see on TV!
TV shows make everything see glamorous.

WARNING: Jobs in the field of Law are drying up FAST!!! This is not a good field to invest in right now. Reasons: very bad economy, many people today (mistakenly) think they can do their own legal work thanks to the WWWeb, there are WAY TOO MANY law schools in the USA (they won't tell you this!) churning out WAY TOO MANY graduates to be supported by our country. In other words, there are too many attorneys in the USA. Even IF you do graduate, you probably won't be able to find a job. Even IF you do find a job, you will find the law office environment: is very political, is very competitive, law office administrators typically do not care about the employees' best interests - they really only care about the employer.

Suggestion: Go into the field of Healthcare <<< LOTS of jobs there!!!

Good luck.
