Hello, hope you answer this question. I recently started a new job with a 6 month probation period. This is a job I cannot afford to lose but unfortunately I'm so nervous of losing it .i cannot seem to calm down and not worry about the probation period. I'm scared because I was off for three days because I was injured on the job. It happen accidentally and they took me to the clinic, I was using power equipment and cut my finger. It looks bad to absent from work like this. I also called my supervisor the next day that I wanted to come back, he said u have to wait till the doctor releases u. so does this effect my probation and evaluation since I was injured on the job. I'm scared they might let me go when I go back on Monday to work, that they will find a reason. What can I do to make up for this ? I been there for a month and a week. I never been late and always do whatever they ask me to do. Since I am new I get very few small mistakes but im learning from them. I need to pass this probation. I know the injury will stay permanently on record. What do they expect out of this probation? How do I pass?

it wasn't your fault you had to miss so much work. you had a doctors note you should be ok. but relax, or you will mess up enough for them to fire you! |

The fact that you didn't make a big deal out of being hurt on the job was in your favor. I never liked evaluations because they dwell on things they don't like about your performance and they usually have to knitpick to to do that. Evaluations have always made me want to kill my managers and always made me feel very unappreciated. I think they are unproductive. But every job has a probation period because they have to be sure you are doing your job. Every new job has a learning curve--the time it takes to become productive so don't worry about small mistakes, they are expected when you are new. The fact that you are on time and are willing to do whatever they ask whenever they ask shows that you are a team worker and a willing employee. You are doing everything right and shouldn't have a problem. Stop worrying about being fired and start thinking in terms of are they going to give me a raise when my probation period is up. By the way, there are laws that protect employees and firing a person because they were injured on the job opens them up for a beaut of a lawsuit. It's not going to happen. Good luck and calm down. . .start enjoying your job! |

I am confused. What is this probationary period that you're speaking of? Is it an actual probation or just a term that basically states that you are still in training? If you were injured on the job, first and foremost seeing a doctor was the correct thing to do. Second, your place of employment is responsible for any medical bills if your injury was not the fault of your own but due to a defect in the machinery. Third, you may not return to work until the doctor deems you well enough. This does not compromise your job. Just continue to do what you do at your best and you should have no problems. |
