Not sure if I was fired.?
Find answers to your legal question.

Not sure if I was fired.?

I recently gave my 1 weeks notice leaving my sales job. At the time he said to give a written resignation saying that it was that friday. Later after talking to the national sales manager he said that they would just accept my resignation right now. I said that I am not giving it for now that I am giving it for that friday. I also have to pay back a 1000 dollar training fee if I quit before six months. Now I don't feel that i owe them the 1000 dollars since I lost a weeks pay and lost the 1000 dollars. I think I was technically fired. What do you think?

You technically quit. There is no way to turn a resignation into "I was fired".

If you resign, an employer can choose to accept your resignation on the spot to protect themselves against any corporate sabotage. Technically you owe the $1000 but I would let them contact you about repayment.

In england you have to work off the weeks notice if you get paid every week, if you get paid every month sometimes you need to give them 2-4 weeks notice, every job differs.

I'm not sure about the whole training fee but it sounds like what we have here "trial periods" which is usually 13 weeks depending on the status of the job.
I'd ask for your jobs policy and procedures folder if they have one and find out what your entitled to return if you decide to leave.

If you've signed a contract I'd get a copy of that too, you may have signed your rights away.

Almost certainly not (fired that is) you instigated this by a verbal statement. The fact you have terminated anyway I suppose if you felt it right and proper you 'may be able to make life uncomfortable and get the weeks money but I seriously doubt it.

The more important issue really has to be the training costs. If you have entered into written agreement for the company to reclaim this cost (subject to the terms you suggest ) then I'm afraid you will be liable to pay it. I expect what will happen if they are not holding your entitled pay then will do one of two things;

1. Pursue you through the courts (doubtful)
2. Call it quits if you do.

If the latter point then I'd probably just move on and put it down to life's experiences.
