Can a Employer fire me from my Job without any reason whatsoever and ask me to leave without an hour of time. Again without any reason just because of the bad Economy. Is it not mandatory in the US to give a Notice Period? Thank you for your answers, G.Sikka

Yes, they can. Most employees in the U.S. are considered "at-will" employees, and can be fired with or without cause at any time. There is no law about a notice period, either for the employer or the employee. There are laws in place that help provide severance to employees, but most of these are state laws, and are only applicable to companies of a particular size. |

Nope. We have no such laws unless it is a mass lay-off and they must give at minimum 60 days notice even if it is a non union environment. As the previous poster wrote this is known as the WARN ACT of 1989 and applies only to those organizations with 100 or more employees to provide sixty- (60) calendar-day advance notification of plant closings and mass layoffs of employees. More than likely you are in an employee-at-will state. Meaning you can be terminated at anytime with or without cause. Just file for unemployment. |

It is not mandatory to give notice in most states. The only other law that might apply is the WARN act but it is only valid if they are laying off a certain percentage of their workforce.
With that being said, it is probably legal but not good business. Unfortunately it is happening more and more. |
