Find answers to your legal question.

One of my jobs lasted 3 months and it was employment at will. All I was told was that it was not a right fit.?

I asked again for further deatil and all they said it was not a right fit. On my recent job application I have listed "position eliminated" as my reason for leaving. This has never been an issue for previous background checks. However, I just received a verbal offer for my dream job and I am really concerned what this previous employmer might say about me. We left on good terms.

Don't worry. They will give the dates of employment only.

Think back on your experience there, though. Try to remember if there were any negative reactions to you early on. If you see the same types of reaction at your new job, ask if you're being effective or if there's anything you need to change about your approach to things.

If they listed it as "position eliminated" you should have no reason to worry. They are just saying they "downsized" and you were no lomger required. It does not speak ill of your work.

Odds are they won't say anything about you other than your dates of employment, assuming the "dream job" even checks. Many businesses don't bother because most will only confirm dates anyway.

In the future, instead of saying "position eliminated," just come clean during the interview and say the job wasn't the right fit. It's not a secret code or anything; sometimes it just happens. You don't have to mention whether it was you or the company that decided it wasn't a good fit -- maybe you weren't happy and wanted something better for yourself.

I think you should be fine - you left on good terms...
