Earnings
In May 2006, the median annual earnings of all wage-and-salaried lawyers were $102,470. The middle half of the occupation earned between $69,910 and $145,600. Median annual earnings in the industries employing the largest numbers of lawyers in May 2006 were:

Management of companies and enterprises $128,610
Federal Government 119,240
Legal services 108,100
Local government 78,810
State government 75,840

Salaries of experienced attorneys vary widely according to the type, size, and location of their employer. Lawyers who own their own practices usually earn less than those who are partners in law firms. Lawyers starting their own practice may need to work part time in other occupations to supplement their income until their practice is well established.

Median salaries of lawyers 9 months after graduation from law school in 2005 varied by type of work, as indicated in table 1.

Table 1. Median salaries of lawyers 9 months after graduation, 2005 Type of work
All graduates
$60,000
Private practice
85,000
Business
60,000

Academic/judicial clerkships

Most salaried lawyers are provided health and life insurance, and contributions are made to retirement plans on their behalf. Lawyers who practice independently are covered only if they arrange and pay for such benefits themselves.

I had reason to use a lawyer earlier this month. I spent 15 minutes in his office and he attended the court. Total time with him, 1hr15mins. Cost $1000.00. Money well spent.

Depends on the lawyer.......

There are corporate ones that make millions a year,
Some that take injury or other cases on contingency that can earn 30 percent of million dollar settlements
Others earn anywhere from $200-$400 an hour and up.....

Then there are public defenders that are salaried
In Iowa public defenders get 45-60 dollars an hour

It varies widely. If you like helping people you might want to go for the low pay of a public defender about $50,000, or a lawyer for the IRS which pays about the same. If you really want to help people you can be a pro bono lawyer for the poor. On the higher end Mergers & Aquisitions lawyers can make millions on a single deal as can lawyers in investment banking. These aren't really helping people that need it, however, you will just be making the rich richer and the poor poorer. You can also go to http://salary.com and try different specialties and see what you come up with for your zip code.

Lawyers usually it depends i pay PHP350,000 for my lawyer just for a case, but some lawyers ususally have its own price like my lawyer some may even cost PHP1M if you are living here in the Philippines...

It depends on what kind of law you want to practice and what your law school grades are. Since you say you want to "help people" it's likely you would become a general practitioner in a small firm (or solo). You'd be lucky to make $50,000. If you get great grades and join a large corporate firm, you'd probably start at $100,000 minimum. Unless you can get excited about reading contracts, you'd probably be bored. You also have to take into consideration if you've taken out any student loans for law school and how you'll pay them back. There are so many variables. As someone else mentioned, you'll need to work on your grammar, spelling and sentence structure. You don't want to learn the law at the same time you're learning effective writing skills. Good luck!
