I found a good job opportunity and the company wish to hire me. The problem is, they require BS degree which I don't have one. Can I "pretend" to have one? If I make a certificate myself, are they gonna check with the university? It's a government related company.

If it is a company working for the government they may do a background check. Whether they do or not isn't the question however. You are not qualified to take the job, and it would be unethical to lie in order to get hired. |

If they're government affiliated, you can bet that they're going to verify it. Don't risk it, find a different employer that doesn't require a BS degree :) |

Unfortunately, it's about as effective as making your own money. Even though it may look great, it's not going to work, and you are going to get in a ton of trouble.
With some companies, they use that as a screener for someone they would "ideally" like to hire, but when it's government, you usually have to have exactly what they require. See if they have a program where they will pay you to go to school, or another position within the company that does not require a degree. After working there, then they may make an exception based on your proven performance.
Good luck, but I wouldn't chance it.

Oh wow. It's pretty easy to verify whether you've ever attended a school, let alone graduated. That's considered public information. Anyone can call a school's registrar's office and ask whether John Q graduated from said school in 2002. You don't want to go down that road. Not to mention, if they're asking for a bachelors degree, chances are you actually need one. |

Why take the chance trying to lie your way into a job. Sooner or later just count on that they will discover your deception. Why not talk to them about it and see if they will allow you to show them that you have the same experience and know-how as someone with a BS degree.
I know that there are even some "colleges" that sell degrees over the Internet. Most companies have programs that check a person's resume and application to see if it is a internet scam degree. So don't take the chance with that either. Again I think you best bet is to talk to them. If you lie and then get fired later then that could damage your chances elsewhere. |
