Question concerning unfair employment practices.?

I was hired as a contractor with a large company for a specific position. I was given tasks and jobs to do that I performed without question trying to make a good impression. Well months later I was told that I was getting a reduction in my pay because my duties that were assigned to me were not duties that deserved the higher pay that I was recieving.
I felt a little hurt that the company would not hire me permanent and also betrayed because I am on a tight budget and now I have to take a pay cut and change my job title which will also hurt my career. But I have no choice but to accept.
Does any one know if this is legal?

Thanks for the help.

It's legal. And even if it isn't, if you make a fuss and take it to court and all that bs then they will just straight fire you. They don't need a reason and just to cover their own *** they will already have one. Sorry.

Yes is it legal to reduce your pay but only if your are assigned a different job title and duties.

As an example:

You are hired to install windows into new homes. Your title is window installer. Your rate of pay is $15 an hour.

Your company may then have to down size because of fewer home sales.

Rather than laying you off, they decide to change your position within the company. While the number of window installations needed are down, the number of windows needing repair and or service are up. So it is decide that your new position will now be "window repair specialist".

This may or may not come with a pay cut or pay increase. The "free market" will decide the value of a window installer verse a window repairer.

However, if you are still performing the same tasks as before the retitling and pay cut then the company my be breaking the law. If this is the case, please, just look for a different employer. You are not "entitled" to a lawsuit judgment. You are in-titled to "the pursuit of happiness".

Did you sign a contract or was there an agreed wage when you accepted the position? If so then they are in breech of contract, however an employer can offer to pay you what ever they want to-- it is up to you to accept or reject it. When you agree to a certain wage prior to or when accepting a job/ position then that amount cannot change without a valid reason and they must consult with you first. As far as my interpretation of L&I laws you have to agree to this new wage before they can enforce it. However, if you do not agree to the new wage it is possible that you may be relieved/ fired. Whether or not this is legal I am not for certain. Check with your local Labor and Industries (L&I) office for your rights.
