A para legal is a non-attorney who has some training in legal things, like legal research, making legal documents, and such. Many schools have assoc degrees for this. |

98% of paralegals are female, if that's a concern to you. A lot of your duties will be typing, filing, making coffee, answering phones. They like to think they research, but in reality new or junior lawyers just out of school will be researching and you will be typing. Most started as Legal Secretaries or have a dual job description as Paralegal/Legal secretary. So it's hard to land a job starting as a paralegal, but it can be done it just takes the right connections or a lot of persistence. |
