Quick question

Hi A few years back when I was a teenager I committed some crimes. The first one was Section 5 Public Disorder and although I should have been let off with a warning since it was my first offence, I was mouthy to the desk sergeant and he charged me with it and I had to go to court. It turns out he wasn't actually allowed to do that but I had already been to court meaning that it was on my record regardless. I was given a 3 month referral order to go to weekly meetings, and after this had been spent my record would disappear unless a crime was committed again within a year I think. To cut a long story short, because I had already been to court I had to go to court again for the possession with intent to distribute cannabis and I also had to go to court for ABH (a lighter burn on the arm). I never got any prison time and all I received were fines. Does going to court and receiving a fine mean it was a conviction? I ask because my girl friend wants to be a child minder and it says that their partner who they live with or see regularly cannot have a criminal conviction for ABH. Also because it was a few years back (I'm 18 now, and it happened between the ages of 14 - 16) would that provide any leniency? Is there anything that can be done to get around this? I'm a completely different person now and by looking at my educational records it can be seen that I have changed for the better. I live in the UK by the way.
