Recently Terminated, need some help?

My fiance worked in Iowa, as a maintenance worker for this self employed couple running a business in housing.
Last week they let him go due to "poor work habits". The only reason he had what they called poor work habits is because they never trained him, even after he brought it up to his boss several times. His former employer also let three other employees go for poor work habits as well. This is falsified information. He has filed umemployment insurance, and is waiting on his hearing. But is there any other place we can report this lousy employer of his. Basically they let 5 employees go because they didnt want to pay them. I fiance's last check show be here in the next few days for 4 days he worked, butI am afraid he wont get a pay check. Its falsified information, and that is fraud. Please help

May be a lousy way to run business but the employer has done NOTHING wrong. He could have been fired for having brown eyes or any other reason. Absent a contract stating differently or the few discrimination issues an employer can fire an employee for any reason. If fiance wants to be assure a job let him start his own company then he will see how it all works the first time he gets an employee incapable of doing the job hired for. |

They haven't done anything illegal, unless they don't pay him for the time he worked.
It's not falsified information or fraud. Might be unfair, but unfair isn't illegal. |

at will employment means you can be fired for any reason or no reason, as long as it is not a protected class, he should collect UB as he was flayed off through no fault of his, sorry but the fraud theory won't work |

Your fiance should contact your local EEOC office and explain the situation to them. If they feel he has a legitimate claim, they will investigate and tell you what your next course of action is.
The EEOC is an organization who enforces federal laws regarding employment. If they are unable to assist you, they may be able to direct you in the right direction. Their web site is: www.eeoc.gov/ |

It is not a good idea to seek legal help over the Internet.
Contact your local (usually county) bar association. Ask for some names of Attorneys that handle employment law for employEES.
When you call the law office(s), insist on speaking to the Lawyer. Do NOT tell all the little details of the matter to the Secretary - save the details for the Attorney. When you do get the Lawyer on the phone line, ask him/her:
- Do they give free, initial consultations?
- How much do they charge?
- Do they take payments on their account(s)?
- Can they help you? OR Refer you to someone who can help you?
