I've just been made redundant from the research section of a company in Australia where I've been for 11 months. Before this I worked for the same company for two years in the research section of the same company in the UK. The UK is the parent company.
They've said I'm not entitled to any redundancy as I've been here just 11 months, and that I signed a new contract for the Australian role. Maybe I'm just a little (!) bitter after being made redundant but had thought that the 2 years I worked in the UK section of the firm would have counted for something...
Any ideas?

The general rule is: if you are on a fixed-term contract, you may be entitled to statutory redundancy pay. Your contract needs to be at least two years long. This also applies if you have shorter contracts which follow on from each other, as long as the total period of time is at least two years. If the contract (or the last contract in the series) runs out and is not renewed because your job is no longer needed, you will be entitled to statutory redundancy pay.
The best thing you can do now is pay a visit to your local Citizens' Advice to find out exactly where you stand. They can also recommend solicitors who specialise in employment issues if you need to take this further.

Would like to know if one work for a firm but have 2 roles at different site. and he is made redundant at one site. legally can he still work at the second site or once he accept the redundancy from site 'A'. HE WILL AUOTMATICALLY loose the job at 'B' as they come under same firm. pls advice. |
