Regarding time off for medical appointments?

We have been told that, if we cannot get a medical appointment out of work hours we have to make up the time. I have my doubts but is there a legal answer

If you can get a medical certificate saying that you're too sick to be at work, then you can use your sick leave and shouldn't have to make it up.

If it's for a check up and you're not actually sick, then it sounds reasonable that you would either have to use your annual leave or make it up.

Your employer is correct , If you cannot get appointments out of work hours its up to them. But you can leave to your appointments , but will not get paid which is fair. Your employer is not really all that sympathetic to you if they will not let you go. If you are salary employer than yes you have to make up work for the hours missed. If you are hourly paid then no you do not have to make up for them just loss of pay for that day.

Depends on the company, that sounds fair enough to me. But if you have a good employer they will be very Flexible.

I am in NY state - it may be different depending on where you are located. If your employer does not provide "personal" time and if either your employer has fewer than 50 employees or your dr appointment is not related to a serious health condition there is no legal requirement to give you time off, paid or otherwise, for such appointments.

You're not entitled to be paid for time off for medical appointments.

Try arranging the time off outside of working hours, or try doing it at a time when your work can be covered. Remember that jobs are becoming very difficult to come by; you need to show at all times that you're a good employee.
