Request from a potential employer?

Can a potential employer request a copy of a previous paystub to verify the information that was given at the interview? I think it sounds a bit shady.

No, you do not have to provide a pay stub to them. You only have to fill out an new I-9.

look they can request anything -- what color are the under shorts are wearing. . does not say you have to furnish anything -- look if you did not lie on the form and you want the job what is the big deal.. if not tell they to take the interview and put it where the sun does not shine and move on.

In the years I have worked, no employer has asked for a pay stub to verify information. Human Resources generally call the previous employer(s) and try to verify a salary range. Asking for the pay stub is their way of insuring not to pay more than they have to. I would ask again why they need to see actual stubs versus them calling former employer(s). If they can not give you a satisfied answer, keep looking for work.

Show the stub -- did you lie in the interview? Some employer's do request the paystub as proof you were honest about your last employment. They can always call and get the information via the telephone, but why not just produce the stub?
