Resignation not accepted?

Have you ever resigned from a job and been told that your resignation is not being accepted? Well this happened to me - how do you respond to this? I never experienced such a thing..

The employer is bound to accept your resignation, provided you have given notice as per contract. At the most , they can demand notice period pay, if any. Please issue a letter that your resignation letter stands, and ask them to relieve.

They can't force you to keep working. Politely inform them that you will continue working until the date specified in your resignation letter. If you didn't have a date, or even a letter, write one that respectfully indicates that you will be leaving and gives a specific date. Give them a copy, and keep one for yourself.

I will make sure they put it in writing and explain why. So when you do decide to leave on your own you will have a record of it to carry forth to your next job.

Just say sorry, but my resignation stands. They can't stop you from resigning, even though they'd apparently like to

If you have a written contract for your work it should have the rules for ending the contract by either side, so look at that to see what was agreed upon. If nothing was written you probably owe nothing (unless your state has rules around that, not sure).

Don't just resign verbally, give WRITTEN notice of the resignation with your name, todays date and the effective date of resignation. Make extra copies, and make sure one go to HR department, one goes to your manager, and anyone else so that the evidence it there that you have resigned. The HR department should be willing to sign that they received the note, but if not you could always send it in a registered letter or something.

If you need to do knowlege transfer to someone to take over your work it would be good to give a couple weeks notice so they can find someone to replace you.
