I started a new job as a server of a restaurant. When we (the servers) make a mistake on an order, we have to pay for them. Is this legal? It can be very costly!

did they tell you when you started work there that you would have to pay? well if not i dont think its ilegal.but if you wanted to fight it you can but you would spend too much money fighting it than its worth,i tell my guys at work if they f**k up they will have to pay.but i wouldnt act on it just to scare them. so yes it is legal. |

this can not take your pay below minimum wage for the shift in any state
without knowing in which state there is no way to give an accurate answer

Yes it is legal, but your employer is obligated to tell you this when you start working for them.
I once worked as a cashier and we were told we would have to pay if our deposit was out by more than $5. It's a pretty good incentive to get the employee to pay attention to what they are doing and to be more accurate. |
