Resume help? Please Help Me!!!?

OK, I'm a college student, and I am trying to apply for a job at some pretty high-level law offices in Atlanta this summer. The problem is, I don't have a resume.

I've got some good stuff to put on there,
Worked for a year and a half on a statewide campaign (It was successful)

I Interned for the Lt. Governor last summer.
I worked as a receptionist at a law office this Christmas.

I have a decent GPA (3.45) and I did some cool stuff in Highschool, (Professional String Quartet)

I also have some not so cool jobs that I've had. ie. Garbage man, produce store, Work assistance program @ school.

Should I list everything? I've hear they hate gaps in your resume. But will having been a garbage man hurt my chances. Do I list School things like GPA, fraternity involvement etc...? I just don't know where to start.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Since the resume is a selling tool outlining your skills and experience so an employer can see, at a glance, how you can contribute to the employer's workplace, please follow the guidelines as enumerated in the following site

List relevant information, try to keep it to one page. When I am hiring someone, I don't mind if there is a gap because I don't want to know about the little jobs...I want to know what kind of work experience of theirs would benefit my company. On the APPLICATION is where I do not want to see any gaps.

Contemplative
There were always times you did something, like school, or volunteer or travel Europe (for instance). Put down your accomplishments for each area. Then learn to interview actively to turn the conversation around to their company, philosophy and what you can do for them (without bragging). Sometimes the local colleges have interviewing classes, check them out and practice. Many people can just talk their way into a job if the experience isn't all that much - you would be amazed. Stay positive! Sell yourself.

Also, can't say this enough "network," people who know people...works like a charm. Read the local business journal and if there is a company you want to work for, cut out the article and send it to the individual complimenting their firm on whatever. It might get you some leverage and attention, but you still have to ace the interview.

I think that you should include everything given that you are in college. I personally divide my resume old-school into the following sections.

~

Objective
(What you are looking for)

Education
(HS, College, GPAs, Degrees, etc)

Awards & Recognition
(Great place to brag about random achievements you cant fit elsewhere)

Experience
(Every job that you've held for a significant amount of time)

References
(Don't use friends... use professional references)

~

Gaps of a few months supposedly don't mean much, but you should use date ranges that account mostly for all the time you were in school or college, or working.

Good Luck!

Okay... first go find a book on resumes from the campus placement office. You need to see some examples of other students so you don't blow yourself out of the water (believe me if your resume makes a few key mistakes it will never move past the secretary's trash bin.

In you case the resume will be one page long... it will not have what you did in high school on it that doesn't belong there... if you worked anywhere in any of the summers then put that... your trying to sell yourself as an adult so high school band isn't going to do anything except give the person looking at your resume a laugh and reason to toss it in the trash.

You should go to a professional resume writer. You will have to pay for it, but in order to get the position that you want, you need professional help.
