Hmmm Salaried. Unfortunately no illegalities. Would have been illegal if you were hourly. But be advised there are some industries (i.e., help desk, field technicians, file clerk, receptionist, and a few others) that cannot be hired as exempt workers (salaried) and must be hired hourly because under the Fair Labor Standards Act they must be paid overtime. You do not mention what you do for a living. It is possible you may fall under one of these job categories. |

Yes, it's legal. That's why you're salaried instead of hourly, so they don't have to pay overtime.
You said they mentioned minimal overtime 50 per week. Well, that's "minimal". They didn't say what the maximum is, therefore there is no maximum. Sounds like you need to look for a better job. |

it depends where you work, and your position.
Sometimes it is "understood" to do some overtime.... |

Agreeing to be a salaried worker is basically agreeing to no overtime. It doesn't exist under salary. (You are an "exempt" employee on salary).
You are paid a flat wage regardless of the hours worked. If you work 40 hours a week, or 80 hours a week, you are paid the same amount because you are salary.
I feel your pain. I'm currently putting in an average 60 hours a week right now and there are times (often) when I kick myself for agreeing to my current salary. However, there are also times, like when I need to leave early, that I'm thankful.
The website below lists how salaries work and what your pay can be docked for. Unless you have bonus incentives, you are paid exactly the same, every pay check, regardless of the amount of hours worked over 40. |

Look for a Change and switch over, if you can. |

I am not a lawyer, but if you have an employment contract which states how many hours you are supposed to work per day I think you have a legal basis for claiming overtime. If they don't give you the overtime pay it is time to look for another job.
Peace and blessings! |
