Sears won't clear my background so I cant get hired at retail stores?
|
Basically, When I was 16 years old, I was employed at Sears and I was told to leave because I gave a small discount to a couple of items and I did NOT get arrested and they didn't file charges on me. Now I am 18 and I applied at Circuit City a couple of months ago and I was about to get hired but my background check didn't pass. I got a letter in the mail stating why I didn't pass the test and it said that I owe Sears $67. Today, I went into Sears and talked to the manager and he said to go to Loss Prevention and when I went there, they told me they couldnt do anything about it and to call a number (which I had already called before I went into the store, but they told me to talk to the store manager). Now I need to know what I can do to solve this problem to clear it from my records because I was 16 at the time and I didnt get arrested so it couldnt have been that bad. Please let me know soon. Sears f'd me over!

as you were never arrested or convicted there are no records to seal, you were an employee that got caught stealing, Don't use them as a reference any more and it will not show on a background check |

The first thing I would do is verify that this is the way it will happen whenever you apply for a job. Get a friend or family member who sounds very professional and authoritative to call up Sears and pretend to be a prospective employer. (Make sure they use *67 to hide their caller ID!) This is perfectly legal and no one will get in any trouble.
Have them announce that they are from (made-up company) and that they are considering hiring you. Questions to ask are: What were his dates of employment? Is he eligible for rehire? Can you tell me anything about his job performance?
Once you verify that Sears is either A) telling the world all about you, or B) only revealing dates of employment (which is the norm), you can decide what to do from there. If they are telling more than just dates, then you need to keep pushing at the store and by telephone until you get things resolved. |

something does not make sense
minor's records are sealed. I don't therefore, believe what you were told.
And no one would hold a stupid discount record of $67 for 2 yrs.
makes no sense.
