Short payed... are companies supposed to do this?

I work in a nursing home. The company is Pacific Care which as far as i know is a Canadian/USA company. Im in the UK. The guy that owns the place is a franchisee and he has a few nursing homes around the area. When we get payed we dont receive our pay slips until 2 or 3 days later, by post. This doesnt allow time correct mistakes if they have made any. I cant count the times i have been short payed, and its happened AGAIN this month, by one shift. Sometimes though its 2, 3 or 4 shifts which they conveniently miss out! If I ask the manager for the money this month, she says "you'll have to wait until next month, i dont have it in the safe" or something along those lines. So you end up waiting another month and sometimes they miss it out again!!!! Everywhere else ive worked Ive received my pay slip a few days before getting payed, and its always handed to you insted of getting posted. So...
1) Is it right that we dont receive out payslips until a few days AFTER we get payed?
2) If im short should'nt i receive the outstanding amount when i ask for it insted of waiting 1 or maybe 2 months?

The action of the management is illegal. You must get your salary slip along with pay. Any discrepancy between the two gives rise to a lot of suspicions including falsification of records which is a criminal office. If by chance there is a discrepancy, it has to be set right immediately and not after months of delay.
Please bring this issue to the highest authority in the organization.

I don't know the laws in the UK, I live in the US. I also get my payslip several days after I'm paid. That's not really the problem. The bookkeeper who figures your paycheck is probably up to no good. I worked at a nursing home where the clerk "made mistakes" all the time and always in the nursing home's favor and she ended up getting dismissed for embezzling. Does the UK have a Wage and Hour type of governmental organization? One that checks on work conditions (that you get breaks, that protective equipment -gloves and such are provided), that a minimum wage is paid? If so, I would turn it in to them because I bet that if they're going to pay you a month late that they then owe interest, plus the bookkeeper is probably doing something illegal.

Teri ann Sensible.
This is not good enough and yes you should get your payslip before your money and any monies owed immediately, what do these people think you go to work for? to earn a living. x
