I have been looking for a new job for some time now, but never seem to find one where I met the qualifications. I finally found a position to apply for. Now, that the economy is so bad I am just about afraid to apply. This position will pay a minimum of $10,000 more than I am currently making. I would hate to be in a situation where they hire me and then get the boot.

Good Advice Princess Leia. I forgot I was looking for a job because I was unsure about my current job. I have a state position right now and the govenor just cancelled our raises for this year. The department I work for doesn't have a budget some of us are pay out of the sponsored programs budget and some are paid out of the financial services budget. The job I am applying for is with the City and basically have the same benefits as my state position.

1. Yes, you should apply. That doesn't necessarily mean you will get the job but you might as well apply as you have nothing to lose.
2. If you are offered the position, you need to find out what the benefits are (other than the $10K/year more salary). Find out their vacation/sick leave / annual leave policy, health care benefits (medical, dental, vision), and other benefits. You then need to weigh the pros and cons of accepting the position.
3. In this economy, you don't know whether you'd get the boot at your current position.
