Should I be a lawyer, or is it a miserable career?
Find answers to your legal question.

Should I be a lawyer, or is it a miserable career?

I am currently in High School. I make all A's (not that that means anything). I want to be a lawyer because I am interested in legal procedures and the law; however, I always hear about how miserable lawyers are. Plus, I don't want to work a job where I have to work 60+ hours a week.

I have made good test scores (especially in english/writing) and I think I am cut out to be a lawyer. But like I said, I don't want to be stressed out for the next 40 years of my life.
Advice?
Additional Details
PS: I don't want to be a corporate lawyer. I want to work in a small "general practice" firm.

There are many happy lawyers - it depends on what you are looking for. I liked your ps that you were not wanting to get into corporate law, but a smaller GP firm.

I work with lawyers nearly every day. And most of the lawyers I work with are nice, friendly, happy, and while many put in long hours, many do not. It really depends on what you make of it. There have been recent news stories (I read daily news from law.com, but I don't remember when any articles came out) about a trend towards lower pay for less hours -- in other words the firms are trying to attract the talent, and with so many not wanting to put in 60 hour weeks, they are working with these individuals.

You will likely want to get a little experience at a larger firm for a while, but then you can move to a smaller firm if that is what you are looking for.

wELL THE THING IS NO MATTER WHAT IF YOUR A LAWYER ITS LONG HARD HOURS. ALSO ARE YOU REALLY GOING TO BE OK WITH CONSTANTLY SEEING HOW CORRUPT THE LAW REALLY IS? I WAS R BE. I WAS CONSIDERING BEING A LAWYER BUT I WAS TOLD IM TOO NICE AND I WOULD HAVE TO BE VINDICITVE AND HEARTLESS. SOMETHING I WOULD NEVER BE. THINK LONG AND HARD BECAUSE IT IS A CRUEL AND DISGUSTING WORLD OUT THERE

I'm not a lawyer, but my mother-law worked as a legal secretary for about 30 years, I work with a retired lawyer, and my bosses' wife is a lawyer as well. From everything I've heard from them, (as long as you're good at it), it depends a lot on how much money you want to make. If you work the long hours, you get the big money if you don't, you don't. They also have said that it's very important to know what kind of firm you are getting involved with, and what they expect from you.
Good Luck!
