I have been in school getting my pre-req.s to become a registered nurse and I am almost done. Although... I recently got charged with assult 4 - domestic violence (unfortunately, got screwed over by a legally insane ex). I'm not a dangerous person, the only other thing I have on my record is an mip when I was 19 which was dismissed...my ex tried to commit suicide infront of me with a loaded gun and I hit him with my hand until he dropped the gun and I could get it away from him, sad for me, I was the only one who saw the gun and he had a bruise which gave him the opportunety to screw me over even more and took it to court but bailed before our court date (probably scared that I would tell the court about his unregistered guns) and he left the sate. But, in washington the state still persues the case even if the petitioner takes it back. Anyway, On my permenent record it says I was arrested with a felony and charged with a misdemenor. I was wondering if I am even able to work in a hospital as a registered nurse with a criminal record? I think I've read about nurses getting felonies and having a suspended license? but what about before you even have any job history in the feild? If anyone could let me know if I am wasting my time and money. thanks...

Call your state nursing board. they will be able to tell you whether or not you can even get your license. i recently went to an informational seminar at the nursing school i'm looking at and they brought that situation up. Call them and they'll let you know.

It would probably be wise if you ask the board your self I would think it might be safer to look into home care. But the nursing positions now is basically the only safe jobs we have now a days. The court will knock it down to a lesser charge if it is your first and you would have to go to classes. But tell them after all is said and done you want it off your record so it can't be held against you for your job/ career that you are going to school for. GOOD LUCK |
