Should I go to law school??
Find answers to your legal question.

Should I go to law school??

I am 23 with a business degree. My uncle who is not married and has no children has a law firm. He wants to give me his office. He currently has 500 clients so it is very successful. If I go to law school I would walk right into it. But should I go?? I just got married last year and I am scared it will put a major strain on our relationship. Plus we just bought a brand new house and I won't be able to work as much as I do now so it will strain the finances as well. My parents have offered to pay for me to go. And I graduated with a 3.96 GPA from college so I think I can get accepted. But I need advice from someone who is either currently in law school or has went?? What should I do??

Yes, but I would ask your uncle to stay on as a consultant for a bit (to ease the transition and give you some experience) and talk it out with your wife. If she's alright with it now make sure she'll be alright with it when you're studying all day and into the night and don't have quite as much time for her. You're young and have plenty of time to stabilize yourself and start a family, but you need to incorporate your wife's goals and makes sure they don't interfere with your own or vice versa. If you're in Law School full time it will definitely put a strain on you financially, but you might be able to get a pretty decent loan rate the way the economy works right now, and inheriting a successful firm would likely give you the cash to pay it back. At any rate, it's your life, and ultimately your decision, I can only hope that you consult with your family, your wife, and your uncle before making your final decision. Best of luck to you.

It would be crazy for you not to take this opportunity. If your parents are going to pay for your schooling then I do not see how there will be a financial strain. Insofar as a strain in your relationship. That may very well happen. It is no secret that the number of marriages and engagements that end when someone goes to law school, but if your wife is an understanding woman she will support you during this endeavor. Good luck!

Warning: Jobs in the field of Law are really drying up FAST!!! This is NOT a good time to invest in this field. Reasons: very bad economy, people think they can do their own legal work now thanks to the web, law schoold (including those that train legal support staff) have churned and are churning WAY TOO MANY graduates to be supported by today's economy- you'll get out with a law degree but there are NO jobs in this field at this time, law office employees are finding that law offices are very political and competitive and bosses generally do not have employees' best interests in mind.

Suggestion: Go into the field of healthcare!!! Healthcare is HOT right now! LOTS of jobs there - even with your background.

Good luck.

Normally I would advise against going to law school, but given your facts, you have the connections that will help you succeed in the profession. Go through law school and focus on merely passing. All you need is that piece of paper.

Remember, D's get degrees.

Please take it.
