Should I or am I legally supposed to tell my employer if I get in trouble with the law?

Should I or am I legally supposed to tell my employer if I get in trouble with the law?

My question has three parts. I am sorry but I need as much info as possible.
Scenario: A few months ago I was involved in a traffic accident which involved some property damage to the city ( I hit a tree). I am not being charged with DUI or anything, however, given my past driving record (suspended license due to failure to pay tickets....did not have money at the time) the judge is putting me on court probation and I will be charged with a misdemeanor (left the scene but for valid reason) I have never been arrested and this is devastating to me but what is worse is I don't know what will happen if my current employer finds out. My questions are 1) DO I have to tell them? Can they fire me if they find out? Should I even be concerned about this issue?
2) I have been offered a very good position at an insurance agency as an intake nurse but did not include this info because I honestly was hoping they would hire me before officially being charged with anything. If they find out will they withdraw their offer? Should I just tell them now before they find out on their own?

I know I should have been honest with the Insurance company but given the current economic situation, I did not want to tell them and now I regret that decision. Is it too late?
Additional Details
I need to add that I will not be officially charged with anything until the 25th. Will the insurance company know if they run the check now? How long does it take for something like this to show up on your record?

Company's usually look at felony charges giving your explanation it doe snot seem to be a felony charge.

what did you put on the application? If you stated that you were never charged with a crime then you will be out of the running for falsifying the application. They will conduct a background check and I personally think that its easier to tel them and have them expect it in the background results then to fin it on their own.

Don't tell anyone. You haven't lied maybe omitted but not lied. You have no responsibility to tell your current employer. And if the insurance agency doesn't run a background on you then they won't know either. It is a misdeameanor...most applications don't even ask about these. We all make mistakes don't be so hard on yourself.

I wouldn't offer the info up. If they won't hire you when they "find" out then they wouldn't have hired you if you had offered the information either.
good Luck. Everything will work out, just keep it all quiet!
