Should I tell the employer of my Federal felony which happened 7 years ago?

I had a Federal Felony on the year 2000. I am applying for a job. Should I mention in the application that I had that felony?

The last person I knew that did something like not telling no longer has the job for lying on the application. While not good it would be best to put that down. Would be better not to get the job than fired from it for lying.

Yes, if your employer finds that you've lied on your application, you can be terminated.

Look into getting your infraction pardoned. If link below is not helpful, call the toll free number in the link for the federal government and ask how to go about it. Any future employer runs the risk of finding out about your past until you have it removed from your record.

If it is asked, yes. If you think it will turn up in a background check, you should tell your story in the interview. Have a concise story.

Yes, you should, if they do a back ground check and you told them nothing about what happened seven years ago, you might wind up back in jail again for lying or not even get that job at all.

not unless the application asks. what you shouldn't do is hide the fact at all. that will just make them even more mad when they find out.

I would. If they check and don't find it on your app, it could be grounds for not hiring you. Concealing information.
Admit it. They may accept you, even because of it. Don't admit it and if they do find out, bad news.

As an employer myself, my advice is this:

Tell the truth.

It all depends on what questions are on the application.

Don't lie.

But, if the application does not have any questions that ask about that sort of thing, then I would not voluntarily offer that information.

Do not misrepresent anything on any employment forms. It could come around and bite you in a big, big way.

However, having said that, I hasten to add this:

You should tell us about it.

What happened ?

It must be an awesome story.

If the application stats within 10yrs., then yes.

Yes you should because if anything you do requires them to get insurance on you they will find out anyway. Chances are they will do a quick background check...

Most employers ask if you have had anything past 7 years ago. But if it was sooner, you should tell them. I had 4 felonies from 1997, and I told my employer, and they were ok about it. I am not sure what you did, but they should be ok with it if you are honest and have changed.

femmefatale
of course you should if not it'll bite you in the butt in the long rfun anyhow for lying
