Should an employee have the right to refuse ...?

Should an employee have the right to refuse to do certain functions in his job ONLY because he does not like to do those functions?

NOTE: I am not talking about job functions that are unsafe or are illegal, only those job functions which the employee "dislikes" or "disagrees" with.

of course they should and do..............

let us know how that works out for you.

of course the employee has the right to refuse certain job functions, but the managers also have the right to fire that employee for not doing their job

When a person accepts a job, he or she does so with the knowledge of what that job entails. If they refuse to perform the duties as reasonably requested they open themselves up to the risk of dismissal and I believe the employer would be within his or her rights to dismiss that employee

Well you can refuse, but if they don't like the fact you are refusing, you will most likely get fired.

they should but they don't. if you 'dislike' a task and you have a logical, acceptable reason, then talk to your supervisor so you can both come up with a solution that will work for everyone. if not, you should do it because in all jobs, duties are not limited to a specific list of tasks and baseless refusal to perform a job function is considered gross negligence or insubordination.

NO

Yes, the employee can refuse. And YES, the boss can and probably will fire them.

No, it's called insubordination. Unless the tasks being asked are against the law or something that they are physically unable to do without a reasonable accommodation it is not allowed. We all do tasks or functions that we dislike to do. It's called work.
