Should i lie about my age on my job application?
Find answers to your legal question.

Should i lie about my age on my job application?

I really want a summer job and my actual birthdate is january 21, 1993.

But i could pass for 16 and i was wondering if i should lie about my age on applications.

Is there any way of them finding out my real age?
Additional Details
i live in texas...

and problem is i already turned in my form and i checked that im under 18 but for where i put my age i wrote 16...

there was not a place for birthdate...

do they find out from your social security number?

would american eagle run a background check?

If you get found out you'll be out of a job in a flash and this kind of thing will go on your record, so don't do it.

If your social security number is checked then your employer can find out what your actual birthdate is.

isn't summer over in like 3 weeks?
they could press criminal charges against you if they ever did find out it's not worth it. try babysitting.

Lying is a fast way to get fired.
Getting fired on your first job is really not a good idea.

Your state may have labor laws that apply for employees under the age of 16 and you would make them liable.

For almost all jobs now a days, you are required to provide a working permit (which can only be obtained with proof of age) and a form of identification (which also will have your birth date). You are also required to provide your social security number, which will also reveal that you are under age. I recomend you do odd jobs over the summer, and get paid in cash. Not only will you be able to work, but you will not have to pay taxes.

nooooooooooooo lol most of the time you have to give your social security number dont do it!

Need a way to wiggle out of this gracefully. Go to them and tell them that you may have made a mistake in filling out their form and would like to see it again. (That is all true, isn't it?). Then correct the error. You won't get hired, probably, but then you wont get "fired for cause". And you have to avoid that at all costs. Never, ever, ever, lie on a job application. Even if they don't find out for years, it becomes a justification for firing. And, getting fired means that you would lose any accrued benefits, like vacation time or sick leave. Go wiggle and squirm.

Even at 16 you will very possibly need working papers, and it will show up there so you'll be done before you get started. It's never a good idea to lie on a job application. Even if you don't, they will have to have some id for a form called an I-9 that they have to fill out for all new employees, and that will end up showing your birthdate.

And isn't August a little late to be looking for a summer job?

The minute you hand over your SSN they will find out and you will be fired.

A birth date is also necessary to payroll, so unless you intend to not get paid, you will have to provide and accurate birth date to any employer upon hire.

Any job is going to ask for identification, which will show you're real age.

Of course they can and will find out.
Don't do it-- you have the rest of your life to work. Trust me.

depends on what state ur in i think, but where i live if u r under 16 then you just have to get working papers from ur school, just have them emailed to the work place. its easy im 14 and i did it

Not a good idea to lie about your age to get a job. They probable will not validate your age. But, if you get hurt on the job, there will be some serious liability on your part and maybe your parents. It could cause your family to go bankrupt. If you really need to work contact the employment office in your state and request a work permit. That's the right way.

I just accepted a job offer last week. When I report for work I have to show my I.D. which is a driver's license that makes me look double my age. It's a bad picture. I actually look about 50, but the license makes me look much older (a bad day) and I am much older. Should I be concerned?
