My company has a zero tolerance policy for the DWI i recently acquired on my record. once my company finds out i will surely be terminated. my question is should i quit or let them fire me? dont think i would qualify for unemployment if i am fired.

Hmmm. You could tell them about the arrest, ask if you'll be fired, and ask if you can quit first. You won't qualify for unemployment if they fire you and certainly not if you quit first. Ask them, you'd be surprised how good employers can be by letting you go w/ at least good references. |

if you are fired for cause you can not collect unemployment contrary to what others think it only works if you are laid off, just curious how would they know you got a DUI? try to get a good reference if you can before you leave |

Do NOT resign!! If you do, you won't be able to collect unemployment!
That's a "trick" often done by employers - they try to get you to resign - OR make your job so miserable that you quit. This way they won't have to pay your unemployment.

You have it backwards - you're not eligible ofr unemployment if you VOLUNTARILY leave.
If you're fired, you get unemployment.
If you quit, you don't. |

Find another job now. After you have another job, then quit. Don't resign. Try not to let them find out about the DWI, because if you're fired because of that, it may be something future employers could find out about and not hire you. Could take a looooong time to get rid of that issue. |
