Yes- give them something in writting. Especially if you are planning on using them for a future reference. Employers always think highly of people that conduct themselves in a professional manor. It makes the question "Would this person be elligible for rehire?" an easy one to answer.
In the past when I have given notice I typed something up that was short, simple and to the point. You don't have to give them every bit of information; just keep it brief and business-like. Works everytime.
Good Luck. |

you should always give written notice (keep it simple) even if it is two weeks, it is more professional and you never know when you may need them for a reference |

It's always better to submit a written notice. Later when someone calls for a reference and supervisors, HR folks, etc. have forgotten details, they will be able to look at the letter and see that you resigned in a professional manner. |

You don't want to burn bridges, you might want to go back! Submitting a written notice shows your employer that you apreciate the oppurtunity of working with them. This also increases the possibility of a negotiation to keep your services. |

always give a written resignation.
always talk to your immediate supervisor in person and give her/him a copy as well as the copy you give to HR (or similar position in a smaller work setting). |
