Someone is using my social security to work...any help...can i still work?
|
Okay i just came across some info that somebody is using my social to work, i have no idea how he got the number or card, but its out here in cali so as long as it looks good they obviously dont care to check if its legit whos workin, anyways, i only have info on a previous job he had in 07 and i cant get a hold of this company...anyways, right now i dont have time to be playing investigator and go through any process at the time, I need a job and was wondering if someone was using my social will hold me back from getting hired because my number is possibly being used to work already as i type this, i did a credit report and nothing pops up of him doing any damage, i'll investigate all this bs a little later when i get all the steps in check...but as of right now, i got no cash to do anything and im heading to an interview this comming week...so again my question is...Can I still get a job even though some is working with my name and social security # already? i appreciate any help Additional Details man how i wish i could find this guy, all i know is he either worked or works for a masonry company, and getting a face to face confrontation is gonna be difficult because jobs are always on different sites and never at the office, the only time they report in is when they get paid...so to my suspicions this guy is an illegal, okay if i report this to a police department, does it have to be in his county of work or can i do it locally where i live, i live out in anaheim and he supposedly lives in riverside

If it is your Social Security number, you are the only one with the right to work using that card. Go to work.
However, you are the victim of identity theft. You must notify the Social Security Administration that someone else is using your ID, and provide all the info you can get. File a complaint against the employer - get a lawyer and sue them!
Beware! Most or all ID theft like this is committed by illegal aliens. They do not pay income taxes -- they claim a bogus number of dependents on the W-2, so there is no withholding, and they do not file a tax return. Therefore YOU get stuck paying the income taxes on their income. Plus it is usually enough to bump you into a higher tax bracket, so you pay a higher percentage tax on your own income in addition to paying their income taxes.
Also: file complaint with Federal Trade Commission (which tracks all identity theft cases). You may have to file a police report to send copies to the credit bureaus to report that you are a victim of ID theft and block your credit report. Anyone using your SSN to work may also be using it for credit/banking/financial transactions, even if it has not yet shown up on your credit reports. |

just contact the social security administration
http://www.ssa.gov
this could be someone with your info or as simple as one transposed number on a W-4. since there are no signs of credit activity or any other misused information it may just be an error(let's hope that is the case). mistakes happen often that is why social security sends you your current earnings information every year just prior to your birthday. when you find an error they can correct it. this will have no effect on your ability to work and SSA will deal with the problem. you do need to contact the SSA immediately to get this resolved. once you report it there are steps to clear up any errors in your credit report. you also need to file a police report with the local police department to protect you and your assets if there is actually someone using your number and it is not just a mistake. it's good you caught this when you did and you have a good chance to clear this up with no harm done to you. |

Legally this will be a problem for you and even if you get a job at a later stage you will be fired if your employer comes to know you lied or hid the fact that some one else is using the social number. i would say you file a complaint with the local police and then go ahead for the interview. so in any way if the future employer finds that you hid this fact you can show them the report you filed prior to the interview clearing you of anything. and then in the mean time you can find the guy who stole the card.
hope this helps. |

Call the social security administration and the iRS - this could end up causing you a lot of problems. |

If it your social security #.then file a complaint. Since it yours! But remember that they can impersonate you if they have your home address, social security #, and DMV |

You should contact the department of social security, immediately, and tell them what you have found out. Not doing anything could have repercussions in the future. If someone is using your number illegally, there is nothing to stop him doing other illegal activities with it. |
